Individual Play Therapy

Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) is an evidence-based treatment that holds the central idea that play is the language of children, and the relationship between the child and therapist is the primary vehicle for healing. For families in the Roanoke, VA area seeking support for young children with big feelings, behavior struggles, or emotional challenges, CCPT offers a developmentally appropriate and deeply respectful approach. Your child and I will spend about 45 minutes together weekly in the “special playroom,” where the toys serve as the child’s words, and they have the opportunity to play about their feelings and worries. During this time, I will reflect their feelings, set limits, and support independent problem solving and esteem-building. This form of play therapy is especially effective for children experiencing tantrums, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, or difficulties adjusting to life transitions.

Parent-Child Attachment Therapy

This process begins with an attachment assessment where I observe you and your child completing a variety of simple tasks together. Using the play-based medium of Theraplay, I work with you and your child together to support and strengthen healthy attachment-building over four domains: Structure, Engagement, Nurture, and Challenge. This method is particularly effective with young children and can help you and your child strengthen your mutual trust and connection. Many families in Roanoke and Southwest Virginia find this approach helpful when they are navigating anxiety, separation challenges, behavioral concerns, or disruptions in the parent–child relationship.
